Eamar Plastics upgrades to Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) solution.

September 2010

After 23 years of use, Eamar Plastics are retiring their DOS Order Processing application, and upgrading to a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application.

Over the years of use the DOS application had been tweaked as new features were required, but finally the decision was made to grasp the technologies of today.

They still deploy Windows XP clients, and in one case they had a Windows 2000 client, which had to be upgraded, as the Operating System for the new solution had to be Windows XP Service Pack 3 or above

The Solution

Computer Craft engineered and designed the new application based on the new and revised feature list.

UI Prototyping and application flow was sketched out using Expression Studio. The Expression Studio tool has a feature called SketchFlow, which helps communicate to the customer.

The Client interface deployed Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and MVVM technologies.

Middleware was a Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) model, which was deployed as a service on their Small Business Server. This middleware application used the SQL data store on the same server. All SQL Communication was carried out using LINQ to SQL
